Mark G. Baker
September 22, 1961 -- January 16, 2010 (Aged 48)
Mark G. Baker, age 48, passed away Saturday, January 16, 2010 surrounded by his entire family. Mark was born September 22, 1961 in Lansing.
Following his graduation from Grand Ledge High School in 1979, Mark attended Lansing Community College and Worsham College of Mortuary Science. Mark worked for Palmer-Bush Funeral Home for many years, before working with the State of Michigan, Baker Interiors, and most recently, Golf Store Home.
Mark was preceded in death by his father, Thomas G. Baker. He is survived by the love of his life, Sherri, to whom he was married for 27 years; his faithful sons Jacob and Lucas; his mother, Donna Baker of Lansing; his father-in-law and mother-in law, Robert and Marilyn Bryans of Hastings; his siblings and their spouses: Jeanne and Dan Beachnau of Lansing, Michael and Judy Baker of Lansing, Patrick and Debbie Baker of Shelby Township, Susan and Peter Gilgen of Findlay, OH, Thomas and Cathy Baker of Grand Ledge, Theresa Baker of Grand Ledge, Mary Jo and David Warwick of Kalamazoo, Ann Marie and Erik Anderson of Grand Ledge, and James and Kathy Baker of Lansing; his brothers-in-law and their spouses: Robert and Nancy Bryans of Mason and William and Susan Bryans of Hastings. Mark had many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly.
Mark was a life-long member of St. Gerard Church. He was also a member of the Lansing Council #788 of the Knights of Columbus.
Mark's pride and joy was his family. He loved hunting and fishing with Jacob and Lucas, and attending athletic events. He faced life with integrity and a deep faith.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, 1:30 pm., at St. Gerard Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. John Klein as Celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at St. Gerard Catholic Church, where a rosary will be prayed Monday evening at 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family urges that donations be made to the Baker Boys College Fund in memory of Mark.
John P. Chapman
November 7, 1961 -- May 30, 2018 (Aged 56)
John P. Chapman, 56, of Kingsford, passed away on Wednesday, May 30, 2018, at ManorCare Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Kingsford.
John was born Nov. 7, 1961, in Pontiac, Mich. He attended school in Birmingham, Mich., and graduated from Grand Ledge High School in 1979.
John continued his education, earning his bachelor degree from Michigan Technological University. He worked in banking for more than 30 years and moved to this area from Benton Harbor, Mich., in 1995.
John was working as vice president of Commercial Lending at First Bank Upper Michigan in Kingsford. He has been active in the community and was a member of the Iron Mountain-Kingsford Kiwanis Club, Pine Grove Country Club and the United Sportsmans Club.
John enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, fishing and golfing. He collected, restored and rode vintage snowmobiles, and was active in competitive trap shooting for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Janice; mother and father, John and Sarah Chapman of Lansing; stepson, Peter Hartz of South Bend, Ind.; sister, Christine (John) McMullen of Cincinnati; brothers-in-law, Bob Fiebig of Berkley, Mich., and Ron (Norma) Wokeck of Florida; sisters-in-law, Judy (Harvey) Deam of St. Joseph, and Lauren Allen of Neenah, Wis.
He is further survived by several nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his sister, Catherine Fiebig.
Visitation will be 9:30 to 11 a.m. Monday, June 4 at the First Presbyterian Church in Kingsford. Memorial services will follow at 11 a.m. Monday at the church. Rev. Michael March will officiate.

Mark E. Clark
January 31, 1961 -- January 7, 2018 (Aged 56)
Mark E. Clark, 56, born January 31, 1961, passed away unexpectedly at home on January 7, 2018. He was a graduate of Grand Ledge High School, Class of 1979 and a longtime area flooring salesman. Mark was a devoted family man and a very loving son to his parents. He was an avid sports fan of: Tigers, Lions, Boston Celtics, and U of M football; enjoyed golf, and loved his dogs, especially his Maxwell.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Karen, son Tyler, daughters Sami and Kayleigh Clark; grandchildren Madelyn and Jace; mother Claudia Clark, brother Dick Clark; sister-in-law Liz (Bob) Koehl; nieces and nephews, Travis, Kat, Brittni and Jake; aunt and uncle, Mary (Ken) Zischke. He was preceded in death by his father Gordon “Gene” Clark in 2016.
A Celebration of Life will be held Monday, January 15, 2018, from 4-7:00 p.m. at Peters & Murray Funeral Home, Grand Ledge. Frederick Lee "Freddie" Covert
November 6,1960 -- September 3, 2019 (Aged 58)
Frederick "Freddie" Lee Covert went home to the Lord on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 after a courageous battle with Stage 4 Acinic Cell Carcinoma. Fred was born at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, Michigan to Frederick Paul Covert and Dolores Irene (Bos) Covert who taught Fred the skills to be a great parent, a lesson he learned well and utilized in raising his two wonderful kids. Fred grew up on Eden Trail in Eagle, Michigan where he made lifelong friends that he treasured until the day he died. Fred graduated from Grand Ledge High School and then went onto Michigan State University where he earned a Bachelor's of Science in Advertising. His love for MSU was undeniable and his loyalty unquestioned. He enjoyed a 30+ year career with the State of Michigan working in retirement services doing what Fred did best - helping others. He retired from the Office of Retirement Services and then found joy doing various jobs!
Fred married the love of his life, Julie Therrian on April 30, 1988 and they both found their true joy in life in raising their kids - Ashleigh and Rickie. Fred was most comfortable at family gatherings where he would dispense his legendary bear hugs and made everyone smile with his fun loving songs and the occasional siren (at high volume). His nieces and nephews would tell you Uncle Fred was their favorite as he always had time for each and everyone one of them and each of them actually looked forward to his bear hugs.
The only thing more important to Fred than his family was his faith in Jesus Christ our Savior. Fred dedicated himself to Christ through his devotion to Emanuel First Lutheran Church where he rose to become President and lead the church through turbulent times with an even hand and a smile. Fred loved going to church each Sunday morning and would proudly invite everyone to join him via FaceBook.
A perfect day for Fred was spent with his family, enjoying outdoor activities such hunting, fishing or anything on Torch Lake. Fred, Julie and the kids loved to travel and enjoyed visiting new places throughout the world.
He is survived by his parents Fred and Dee Covert, his beautiful wife Julie (Therrian) Covert, brother Paul Covert (Kristie), daughter Ashleigh Althouse(Chad), son Frederick Thomas Covert (Jessica Burke), granddaughter Lucy Althouse and a very large extended family which he loved dearly. He is also survived by more friends than can be possibly mentioned but please know he loved each of you.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Emanuel First Lutheran Church on Monday September 9 at noon with visitation starting at 10:00 am and a luncheon afterwards. The address is 1001 N Capital Avenue, Lansing Michigan 48906.

Andrew "Andy" Curtis Sunfield, MI Mr. Curtis, age 47, passed away June 19, 2008 in Charlotte, Michigan. Andy was born November 25, 1960, the son of William and Dorothy Jean (Hoy) Curtis. He was a former employee of ASC, Inc., of Lansing and was an avid fisherman and hunter. Survivors include his wife, Cindy; 2 sons, Matt and Travis Curtis, both of Sunfield; 2 brothers, Dennis (Sue) Curtis of Sunfield, Ronald Curtis of Grand Ledge; 1 sister, Bonnie Brighton of Sunfield; several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles; and was predeceased by his parents, William and Dorothy Jean Curtis and 2 sisters, Mary Ann Southwell and Linda Beck. Memorial services will be held Monday, June 23, 2008 - 2:00 p.m. at the Peters & Murray Funeral Home, Grand Ledge. John Jacob DeBoer Sr.
September 20, 1960 — May 9, 2023 (Aged 62)
John Jacob DeBoer Sr. of Grand Ledge passed away at home surrounded by family on May 9, 2023 at the age of 62. John was born on September 20, 1960 in Lansing, MI, son of the late Jacob Jr. and Rebecca “Annie” (Belknap) DeBoer. John worked for General Motors, and owned DeBoer’s Maintenance & Lawn Mowing Company. He was a man of many passions, such as, fishing, snake hunting, handyman, catching frogs and turtles with the kids. John’s biggest passion in life was his children, and grandchildren, whom all will miss him greatly.
He is survived by his children: John Jr., Justin, Jason (Janell) DeBoer, and Jessica (Josef) Krawciw; grandchildren: Aidan, Vanguard, and Shepard; niece, Alissa DeBoer. John is now joined with his parents, Jacob Jr. and Annie, and also his brother, Leslie DeBoer.
A funeral service will take place 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 12, 2023 at Mills Funeral Home, Shelly-Odell Chapel, 518 S. Main St., Eaton Rapids, MI 48827 with a visitation one hour prior to the service; interment to follow at Rosehill Cemetery, Eaton Rapids. Tammy Jean Dukes Osborn
May 15, 1961 - August 22, 2019 (Aged 58)
Tammy Jean Osborn of Lansing, MI, passed away August 22, 2019 at the age of 58. Tammy was born in Lansing on May 15, 1961, the daughter of Gerald and Betty (Oles) Dukes. She was an avid reader, enjoyed crocheting and her cat, but most of all she loved her grandchildren.
Tammy is survived by her husband of 40 years, Kenneth; sons, Daniel (Tenisha) and Joel Osborn; daughters, Rachel Osborn and Sarah (Carlos) Estrada; grandchildren: Alena, Rebeca and Sofia; mother, Betty and sister, Brenda Dukes. She was preceded in death by her sister, Aime Dukes.
Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 26, 2019 at Delta Center Cemetery, 7301 W. St Joseph Hwy, Lansing, MI 48917. Debra Ewing Miller
DATE OF PASSING: July 31, 2018 (Aged 57)
Debra Miller, age 57, of Holland, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Tuesday, July 31, 2018.
Debbie was born in Lansing and grew up in Grand Ledge. She moved to the Holland area in the early 1980’s. Debbie worked at both JCI and Haworth, but her heart and soul was with her family and home.
She was involved with the community by modeling, helping out with the Holland Christian Theater Program, and was even a Cadet Leader. Debbie was a member of Christ Memorial Church and was an active member of the Oasis Bible Study at Providence Church.
Debbie was preceded in death by her brother, Craig Ewing in 2015.
Surviving is her husband, Scott; children, Christina and Matt Kortering, Jamison Caldwell, and Jaden Miller; granddaughter, Esther Kortering; parents, Barry and Ellen Ewing; brother, Joseph Ewing, Lisa and Michael Hartings, and Jeff and Liza Ewing; parents-in-law, Harold and Karyl Miller; brothers and sisters-in-law, Teresa and Dale Wiersma, Jeff and Cheryl Miller, Kent and Amy Leary, Kurt and Val Leary, Deborah Miller and Joergen Blitzner, and Gary Miller; nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Funeral services will be 1:30 pm, Friday (August 3), at Christ Memorial Church, 595 Graafschap Road, with Rev. Jim Liske officiating.
Burial will be in Graafschap Cemetery.
Visitation will be 7-9 pm Thursday (August 2) at the Dykstra Funeral Home-Downtown Chapel, 29 East 9th street.

Roger Martin Falor
November 29, 1961 -- August 31, 2021 (Aged 59)
Roger Martin Falor, 59, died unexpectedly August 31, 2021, at home. He was born November 29, 1961, in Lansing Michigan, son of Archie (deceased) and Donna Falor.
Roger graduated from Grand Ledge High School, Class of 1979. He attended Central Michigan University and was a computer programmer specializing in SQL Databases.
He married Peg (Dagucon) Falor in 1994, and they celebrated 26 years of marriage together. Roger was an avid sports fan and enjoyed rooting for football both NFL and college teams through the years. He was a baseball enthusiast who collected baseball cards since he was a child amassing a large baseball card collection over the years. He enjoyed camping and truly loved his home state of Michigan. He and Peg enjoyed going to the movies and held annual Oscar parties for friends. Despite not seeing all of the Oscar nominees, he successfully picked a large number of winners on his Oscar ballot every year. Roger had a wonderful sense of humor and was known for telling his corny jokes to anyone who would listen to them. He had a great laugh that will be missed by his family and friends forever. Roger loved to play pinball games, collect marbles, attend the annual Frozen Dead Guy celebration, and even wrestled with alligators.
He is survived by his wife Peg, daughters, Kelle Dagucon and Alexandra "Alex" Falor. In addition, he is survived by his mother, Donna Falor of Mackinaw City, Michigan; sister Amy Lee Lowe of Livonia, Michigan; sister Amy Lou Field, husband, Randy, of S. Lyons, Michigan; sister Connie Falor, partner Jon Richardson, of Caledonia, Michigan; nephew Ryan Falor, wife, Tess, son Isaac of Denver, Colorado; nephew Charles Lyon, partner, Lacy Jones of Howard City, Michigan; niece Lindsey Cosgrove, husband Dan, sons Braden, Jackson, and Maverick, of Kentwood, Michigan; and nephew Jacob Field, of S. Lyons, Michigan.
Roger was close to his wife Peg's family who loved him for his kindness and quirky sense of humor. He is survived by his in-laws; Wally and Sheila Dagucon of Sonoita, Arizona; Margaret Olson of Lomita, California; John Dagucon of Albuquerque, New Mexico. In addition, he is survived by many nieces and nephews on his wife's side including Dawn Dagucon of San Francisco, CA; Holly Kreiswirth, husband Bill Wolski, of Georgia; Jonathan Baker, wife Heather, of Frisco, TX; Jessica Olson of San Pedro, CA; Minga Dagucon, partner Sara Castrellon, of Granada Hills, CA; Caela Dagucon, husband, Sean Watts, of Newport News, VA; Traci Hunt, husband Jason, of Glen Burnie, MD; and Dan Dagucon, partner, Sean Lord, of Laurel, MD.
When people would say to "take care" when bidding each other goodbye, Roger would say "take chances" a testament to his life philosophy to live life to it's fullest.
A service of remembrance will be held Sunday, September 12th at Olinger Chapel Hill, Centennial, CO. Mask protocol is required to attend. Those who wish to remember Roger may make donations in his memory to the American Heart Association.
Brian Eugene Hunter
June 25, 1961 -- July 16, 2019 (Aged58)
Brian Eugene Hunter, motorcycle and moto-cross daredevil, "Bad Bri," and self-named, "Eugenius," passed away on July 16, 2019. Brian, 58, of Charlotte was born on June 25, 1961 to Alfred and Janet (Laing) Hunter in Lansing. Brian grew up in Grand Ledge, and went on to earn an Associate Degree at Lansing Community College. He served on the Lansing Police Department for 27 years as a Detective, Police Officer and a Narcotics Undercover Officer. After retiring from the police department Brian worked as a Security Officer for Emergent BioSolutions. To balance the seriousness of his work, he exemplified fun and had not only his family gravitate towards him and his antics, but his friends as well. He was a loving, generous person, a great conversationalist, and loved to make others laugh.
Brian is survived by his children, Garrett and Paige; former wife, Leslie Hunter; sister, Beverly (Roy) Scott of Wisconsin; mother, Janet Hunter; and his nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Alfred in 2010; and his sister Diane Silverthorne in 2011.
Friends are encouraged to support Brian's family. Funeral services are Saturday, July 20, 2019, 11:00 AM at St. Mary Catholic Church in Charlotte. Pamela Jean HUVER Shakespeare
October 8, 1961 - March 1, 2020 (Aged 58)
Pamela Jean Shakespeare (Huver), 58, devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, went to be with the Lord on March 1, 2020, while surrounded by her loving family. She was born October 8, 1961 in Lansing, MI, daughter to the late Leo and Meritta (Bloom) Huver.
She is survived by her husband of 14 years, David, children: Melissa (Chad) Burke, Michelle (Nicholas) Heriford, Julia Jefferson, Mancin Shakespeare and Joy Shakespeare; 11 grandchildren; brothers and sisters: James Huver, Loritta Richey, William (Nancy) Huver, Frances Martinez, Teresa (Jerry) Ballard, Pamela (David) Shakespeare, Michael (Darlene) Huver, Joseph (Sindy) Huver, John, Richard, David and Daniel Huver, several nieces and nephews.
Pam was a graduate of Grand Ledge High School, Class of 1979 , studied business at LCC; a secretary for many years in both the financial and insurance industry; a distributor for Young Living Oils; former Mary Kay Consultant, former minister at Mt. Hope Church, and greatest joy, a homemaker. Pam was a best friend and mother to all, and had an unwavering love and faith in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She led her life as a ministry, loving, supporting, encouraging and fiercely praying for others. Pam was a shining light in so many lives and she leaves behind a legacy of a woman who truly made a difference. Her love and compassion given to so many are cherished memories and will never be forgotten.
A funeral service will be held Friday, March 6, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Mount Hope Church, 202 S. Creyts Road, Lansing, MI 48917, with Pastor Kevin Berry officiating. Bonni Lynn Kinne
March 9, 1961 — October 16, 2023 (Aged 62)
Bonni Lynn Kinne, 62, of Grand Ledge, went to be with the Lord on October 16, 2023, in Lansing, Michigan. Born on March 9, 1961, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, Bonni's life was marked by a deep commitment to her family, her faith, and her work in the field of physical therapy.
Bonni is survived by her mother, Sandra Kinne, her brother Stephen Kinne and his wife Jennifer, along with her beloved nieces, Angela and Allison Kinne. She was preceded in death by her father, John Kinne, and her grandparents, Harley and Esther Kinne, Arthur and Erma Brandt.
Bonni was a proud graduate of Grand Ledge High School's class of 1979. Her high school years were also marked by her talent for softball, a passion that would lead her to Western University on a scholarship. Her skills on the field were recognized when she was selected for the 1st Team All American.
After completing her education, Bonni embarked on a fulfilling career in physical therapy. She worked as a professor of Physical Therapy at Grand Valley State University and served as the clinical director for the school's Physical Therapy program. Her dedication to her profession was matched only by her commitment to nurturing the next generation of physical therapists.
However, Bonni's life was not solely defined by her professional achievements. She was also deeply involved in her church community. A long-time member of the Grand Ledge First United Methodist Church, Bonni taught Discipleship classes, sharing her deep faith and love for her community.

David Richard Luukkonen
August 24, 1961 -- December 23, 2021 (Aged 60)
David Richard Luukkonen of Charlotte passed away December 23, 2021 at his home surrounded by his loving family. David was born August 24, 1961 in Chicago, Illinois to Jack and Nancy (Savala) Luukkonen. He graduated from Grand Ledge High School Class of 1979 and went on to receive a bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University, master’s degree from Virginia Tech, and PhD from Michigan State University. David worked as a Wildlife Research Biologist for the Michigan Department of Natural Resources for 30 years, where he focused on waterfowl and game birds. After retiring from the state, he became an Adjunct Professor at Michigan State University where he enjoyed working with and mentoring graduate students. He loved hunting, fishing and spending time in the outdoors, and he celebrated his best hunts with the practice of taxidermy. He also enjoyed hobby farming by creating wildlife food plots and was an accomplished woodworker. Every year, he traveled to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, where he loved spending time on Lake Superior, picking wild blueberries, and fishing. David was a loving and devoted husband, father, son, and brother and will be missed by his family and many friends and colleagues.
He is survived by his wife of over 29 years, Carol; children, Benjamin, Emma and Hannah; ward, Nevaeh Terry; father, Jack; siblings, Jack Jr., Denise (Jeff) Herweyer and Valerie Luukkonen along with his uncle, Bill (Gerry) Luukkonen. David was preceded in death by his mom, Nancy Elaine in 2016.
A memorial service will be held Friday, December 31, 2021, 11:00 am at the Holihan-Atkin-Barclay Funeral Home, Grand Ledge with Chaplain Steve Ezop of Compassus Hospice, officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday from 10:00 am until the time of the service. Bethany “Beth” Lynn Riker of Grand Ledge passed away April 10, 2015 surrounded by family and friends. Beth was born December 27, 1960 in Lansing, Michigan to Charles “Bud” and Laurie (Gibbs) Riker. She graduated from Grand Ledge High School in 1979 and worked as a mail courier for Mid-Michigan Physicians. Beth enjoyed riding Harleys, kayaking, and going up north with family and friends at the cabin. She also had a green thumb and a great love for animals, especially cats. She is survived by her parents; brothers, Richard and Brian Riker and sister, Rhonda (David) Drullinger; 12 special nieces and nephews; 7 very special grand nieces and 3 grand nephews; 1 step daughter, step granddaughter, and step great grandson along with several very caring girlfriends. She was preceded in death by son, Erick Monroe in 1997 and husband, Lee Revort in 2012. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 14, 2015, 3:00pm at the Holihan-Atkin Funeral Home, Grand Ledge with The Reverend Lyle D. Heaton, officiating. Michael (Mike) John Ryan

Michael (Mike) John Ryan, 61, passed away on December 26, 2022, in Grand Ledge, Michigan. Mike was born to John (Jack) and Sharon (Middaugh) Ryan on March 30, 1961. Mike graduated from Grand Ledge High School in 1979. Mike married Joy Wright on July 25, 1987.
Mike worked at CapiStar (L&L Jiroch Distributing/Spartan Foods). After Spartan Foods, Mike started a very successful career at Sundance Chevrolet (Grand Ledge) where he worked in sales and as a Finance Manager.
Mike was a very proud member of the Chevrolet Mark of Excellence club. Mike also enjoyed riding his Harley and valued the friendships he made while a member of the Capitol Harley Davidson Owners Group. In addition to his Harley, Mike enjoyed cruising in his 1971 Oldsmobile Cutlass. Mike was a professional Santa for 30+ years and provided memories for many children and their families
Mike is preceded in death by his grandparents, his father, his father-in-law, Paul Wright, Sr., and mother-in-law, Barb Wright, and a very special uncle, Ron Middaugh.
Mike is survived by his wife, Joy, of 35 years, his daughter, Jessica (Cameron) Rodgers, his granddaughter, Paisley Elizabeth and grandson, Kayde Michael, his mother, Sharon (Dan) Rennaker, his sister Michelle (Brian) Walsh, brothers Mark (Karen) Ryan and Matthew (Jen) Ryan, and in-laws, Jerilyn (Stephen) Wilson, Paul Wright, Julie (Ron) Toth, many nieces and nephews, and his best friend and memory making brother from another mother, Keith Phillips and his wife Kathy.
Visitation will take place at Tiffany Funeral Home, 3232 W. Saginaw Street, Lansing, on January 5, 2023, from 11:00 to 2:00 and from 4:00 to 7:00 with a vigil service at 7:00. Mike’s request was that everyone wear green and white (MSU) attire and be comfortable (nobody needs to wear a tie at visitation).
Funeral services will be held at 10:30AM on January 6, 2023, at St. Gerard Church, 4437 W. Willow Highway, Lansing, with Fr. John Klein presiding, assisted by Deacon Jim Corder. Visitation will be available one hour prior to the funeral service.

Mari-Ann St. Germain Birdsong

Mari-Ann St. Germain Birdsong, Las Vegas, born and raised in Michigan, Mari-Ann graduated from Grand Ledge High School in 1979.
She served in the U.S. Army just as her father and three brothers had.
While serving, she married soldier Alfred Birdsong – her husband of 40 years. Together they raised their daughter, Jami Lee, and delighted in their granddaughter, Madison. The three generations were a cohesive team through the years of Mari-Ann’s illnesses.
Mari-Ann knew persistent pain at a deep level and in a broad way. Through her written correspondences, she encouraged optimism and resilience in others who were hurting.
Mari-Ann is survived by Alfred, Jami and Madison; her mother, Marilyn St. Germain; siblings, John, Jerome, Caron, Christopher and Matthew; and many nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, John St. Germain; as well as several others whom she loved.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 27, at the Cunningham family farm, 8 East Silver Lake Road at Rennie School Road, Traverse City.

Daniel R. Stornant

CAUSE OF DEATH: Cancer.
Daniel R. Stornant of Sunfield formerly of Grand Ledge passed away after a short battle with cancer. Dan was born October 23, 1961 in Lansing, Michigan to Richard A. and Julie A. (Pearson) Stornant. Dan graduated from Grand Ledge High School Class of 1979. He went on to work for MDOT as an electrician and after leaving the state helped his dad, Dick, with his electrical company. Dan loved golf, music, animals (especially his three cats) and just hanging out with friends and family. He was an intelligent man fond of working with his hands, building and fixing everything until it was up to his standard of perfection.
He is survived by his wife, Leasa; children, Chelsey (fiance' Frank Vogt) Stornant and Shelby (Abigail) Stornant; sisters, Karen Turner and Kristine Stornant; nephew, Joshua; nieces, Emilee and Abigail; friend and mother of Chelsey and Shelby, Barbara Plunkett. He was preceded in death by his Father Richard A. on August 9, 2015.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 3, 2016, 11 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Grand Ledge with Pastor Chuck Foerster, officiating. Kip Nathan Taylor, loving son, brother, and uncle, passed away from COVID-19 on Easter evening, April 12, 2020. Kip was born on July 7, 1961 in Lansing, MI, to Kenneth N. and Jacqueline D. (Richardson) Taylor. Kip grew up in Grand Ledge, MI, and graduated from Grand Ledge Public Schools in 1979. Kip was very active in Cub Scouts, Webelo Scouts, Explorer Scouts, Boy Scouts while in school. He loved spending time with his brother at Grandma & Grandpa's cottage on Duck Lake, and on the farm with Grandma and Grandpa near Traverse City, where Grandma always had a picnic basket packed for a trip to lots of places in and around Traverse City, and where Grandpa was always ready to take him, his dad & his brother, Kevin on a trip up or down the Manistee River. He was always ready to go for a ride in his Dad's airplane, attending Dawn Patrol breakfasts throughout Michigan. He attended Hillsdale College, where he majored in History & Sociology, Lansing Community College, and Davenport University where he earned a diploma in a Payroll Specialty area. Kip served in the U.S. Navy for 2 years and was Honorably discharged in 1985. Kip was employed for 15 years at Peckham Industries in Lansing, and recently moved to Muskegon where he was employed in the automotive manufacturing industry. He was particularly interested in U.S. history and traveled to many historical sites, including Gettysburg, PA, the Outer Banks of North Carolina, Michigan's Upper Peninsula, Virginia, and Washington D.C. to visit historical museums. Kip was blessed with quick wit, kindness, and a natural inquisitiveness. Kip was baptized and confirmed at St. Michael's Episcopal Church in Lansing, and was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Grand Ledge, where he was active in the Youth Group. Kip is survived by his mother, Jacqueline "Jackie", his brother, Kevin (Susan), and his beloved niece Alexandra Margaret Taylor, his uncle, Ronald (Judy) Richardson, his aunt, Rozanne (Robert) Doty, and several cousins. Kip was preceded in death by his beloved father, Kenneth, and all his loving grandparents. Per his wishes, he has been cremated, and there will be a family service perhaps sometime in the summer when family can again come together in remembrance. Phyllis L. Thorn
August 22, 1961 -- October 18, 2015 (Aged 54)
Phyllis Lucille Thorn, age 54, went to be with Jesus on Sunday, October 18, 2015, after a short struggle following a stroke. Phyllis died as she had lived, on her own terms, with her family at her side. She was not sorry to be going home.
Phyllis was born August 22, 1961, in Lansing, MI, to Thomas Leroy Thorn and Constance Lee Shanafelt. She graduated from Grand Ledge High School in 1979 and studied English at Michigan State University. Phyllis subsequently completed an associate's degree in information systems design at Lansing Community College. She worked as a computer programmer from 1993 to 1996 at BORIS Systems in East Lansing. For the last 19 years, she worked as a systems analyst for Michigan State University Physical Plant.
Phyllis was an excellent cook and baker and enjoyed family dinners and gatherings. She was a warm person with a great laugh. She loved the Red Wings, wrapped beautiful presents, and was a faithful follower of Jesus.
Phyllis was much loved and will be missed by her family, including father Thomas Thorn, sisters Carrie Thorn of Lansing and Brenda Hill of Williamston, and brother Thomas Thorn Jr. (Shirley) of Eagle; nephews Ian Thorn (Nikki) and Justin Fuller of Sinclair, WY; and niece Megan Harnett (Dani) of Ocean Springs, MS. She was preceded in death by her mother, Constance Lee Thorn, and sister-in-law Judith Dill.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24, at Holihan-Atkin-Barclay Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 406 N. Bridge St., Grand Ledge. A brief interment service at North Eagle Cemetery will be followed by a luncheon at the Eagle Township Hall, 14318 Michigan St., Eagle.
