Class of 1966
This list of the graduates from the Class of 1966 was compiled from the GLHS 50+ Alumni Association yearly listings of who had passed over the last year at each annual reunion year. We are sure there are others we have missed that need to be added to this list. If you know of any graduates who have passed who are not listed here please email the information, including the year they passed, the date, and for the women their maiden name to:
[email protected] We are only looking "online" for information because we have hundreds of obituaries to research. We realize that there are other resources we could use to look up this information in libraries in electronic or paper format but we do not have the time to dedicate to that. If you have information for someone who has passed please let us know and we will make any changes to information we have previously posted. If we have no other information we will just list “NO INFORMATION WAS AVAILABLE” as part of their listing. The obituaries, or other information if it was available for the graduates that have passed, follow the listing. Thank You! |

Terry Martin Bopp
June 28, 1948 –- December 14, 2019 (Aged 71)
Terry Martin Bopp, 71, passed away unexpectedly and peacefully on Saturday, December 14, 2019 in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Born June 28, 1948 to Robert Martin and Mildred Rae (Hamp) Bopp, He was preceded in death by his parents, oldest brother Robert L Bopp and his wife, Monica Bopp.
Terry worked for and retired from the State of Michigan Department of Transportation, designing, planning, and inspecting the roads and bridges of Michigan. He took particular pride in keeping contractors honest, and the projects he worked showed it. Terry was a lifetime hunter and fisherman with a love of black labs and beagles. Hunting with his son-in-law and grandsons in his later years made him happier than they probably ever will know. Terry was first married to Deloris (Farley), the mother of his two daughters. Their marriage was not meant to be, yet in later in life they re-found friendship. Terry met the love of his life, Monica, a soft-spoken and strong woman who knew exactly how to deal with Terry. He loved it and doted on her. Together they spent their retirement visiting his parents in Florida while they lived, gardening, golfing, and square dancing. They were active in their church and in the families of their children. Monica left to be with the Lord less than a year ago; in her absence life in a big empty house in the country was not for Terry. He moved in with his eldest daughter for a time in the transition. He particularly liked Christina's chickens and hobby farm life along with late nights with his grandson Christopher watching western movies. She and Rick and the boys are grateful to have had that time with him.
Those who knew Terry as a young man knew a man that lived hard, hunted hard, and could be hard, but was also quick to laugh and always ready with a joke or something witty. He loved to eat raw lemons. He took trips to the boundary waters with his brother in law to fish and never missed a deer camp. Winter Saturdays were always filled with the baying of beagles. He could make a pickup truck last half a million miles. Time and Monica softened him up over the years, and these last few decades Terry was known as a family man who liked people, loved to spend time with his family, brightened a conversation with his stories, charm, and wit, and truly loved Monica.
He will be lovingly remembered by his daughters, Rebecca (Jan) Sabin and Christina (Rick) Barnes; his stepson, Kevin (Kim) Schultz; his grandchildren, Micheal and Christopher Barnes, Elliot and Kennedy Sabin, Ashley (David) Hughes, and Jessica (Chris Kunkel) Zeitz; his great-granddaughter, Abigail Hughes; and his brother, Dale (Gary Kerr) Bopp.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2019 at 10 am at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes East Chapel, 1730 E. Grand River Ave., in East Lansing. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, and on Friday, December 20, 2019 from 4 pm until 7 pm at the funeral home.
Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in Mason along with a lunch at Eden United Brethren Church in which the family welcomes everyone to please join them at.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Eden United Brethren Church, 1938 Eden Rd, Mason, MI 48854.
Tana Broadbent
DATE OF PASSING: January 31, 2024 (Aged 75)
Tana Broadbent from the class of 1966 passed away on January 31, 2024 as the result of a structure fire at her residenence. The following is a published statement from WAFF in Guntersille, Alabama.
Feb. 1, 2024 at 1:17 PM EST
GUNTERSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) - An elderly woman was killed in a structure fire on Wednesday night.
The Marshall County Coroner’s Office responded to 1341 Point of Pines around 7 p.m. after a body was located by firefighters.
The victim was identified as 75-year-old Tana Broadbent.
The coroner’s office said her body was found in a car behind an attached garage.
“It is believed that Ms. Broadbent suffered from a medical episode leading her to drive her vehicle through the back wall of the garage,” Marshall County Coroner Cody Nugent said in a news release. “The vehicle suffered damage and it is believed a fuel line on the vehicle was damaged causing the vehicle fire which spread to the garage.”
Nugent said there are no signs of foul play.
Guntersville Fire Marshal Matt Lang said the Alabama State Fire Marshall’s Office has taken over the investigation to determine the true cause of the fire.
He said, at this time, it is difficult to determine what led up to the events due to the amount of evidence likely destroyed by the fire.
No other information could be found related to her funeral.

John R. Richardson
DATE OF PASSING: December 13, 2018 (Aged 70)
For those who haven’t heard, or are looking for a little more information, my Dad, John R Richardson, passed away before the Holidays at 70 years of age, December, 13th at HonorHealth John C Lincoln Memorial in Phoenix, AZ. His health was not great and due to heart complications he’s had for quite some time, a couple of vital organs started failing on the 12th. He is directly survived by my brother, David Richardson, and I (plus my 5 and 3-yr old kids). He grew up in Grand Ledge, MI and is also remembered by his sister, Terry Richardson Decker, and the sons of his brother Doug, Jason Richardson and Anthony Richardson.
Many know my Father as an intelligent yet complicated man, an accomplished Neurologist and innovator in the field (some I remember: the first MRI scanner brought to the Kitsap Pennisula and helping a Chinese acupuncturist join his practice (which included the transition of her Nuclear Physicist husband to get green cards out of China)). He had quite the stories and those that have met him always have amazing stories to tell too (feel free to remind us).
Many have asked what we plan as a service. My Brother and I have discussed, and at Dad’s request he didn’t want a traditional event so we may do something with family friends this summer back in the Bremerton area where we grew up and at Eight Point Lake, MI where he grew up. More to come...
In closing, I just want to say how thankful I am that my wife, Sarah Kirsch Richardson, in seeing his health deteriorating urged him to stay with us a couple days around Thanksgiving. Without this experience, speaking for myself, I’m sure that I would be mourning in even a deeper way than I have been...

Her dedication led her from being a student of the international organization, Bible Study Fellowship (BSF), to starting and facilitating the first group in Mountain Home. She created a community of women who came together to learn truth from Scripture and grow spiritually from one another. The group remains strong and Marilyn’s impact will continue in the many hearts she touched.

Sandy Jean Van Deventer Tober
September 23, 1948 – November 9, 2020 (Aged 72)
Sandra Jean Tober, 72 of Gresham OR, passed away on Monday, November 9, 2020. She was born on September 23, 1948 in Lansing, Michigan to Forest and Frances (Loeb) Van Deventer and graduated from Grand Ledge High School. She received her nursing diploma in 1968 from Mercy Central School of Nursing in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Sandy married Armin Paul Tober on December 21, 1968 in Lansing, Michigan. She worked as a registered nurse for over 46 years in Illinois, Texas and Oregon with Adventist Hospital before retiring in 2018. She was an active member of St. Anne Catholic Church. Sandy loved cooking and was well known as the Ultimate Foodie.
Anyone who knew Sandy knew she was a people person. It was evident in the profession she chose, the vacations she took and the parties she planned. As a nurse she cared deeply for her patients, her colleagues and the physicians she worked with. Sandy was a mentor and a friend and wanted everyone to be the best they could be. She enjoyed it so much she spent 50 years in dedication to the health and well-being of others. She always wanted the best for everyone around her.
Sandy loved to travel. If you took a vacation with Sandy you didn’t have to worry about what you would do. She researched and planned and planned some more. She wanted to be sure there was something to do for everyone who traveled with them. Activities were not the only things Sandy researched and planned when they traveled. She enjoyed immersing herself and fellow travelers in the country, the food and the people. When Sandy planned a party it was very much like her vacations. She never did anything halfway! Sandy was committed not only to the party but to everyone who attended. She wanted to be sure whether you were vegan, vegetarian or needed to be gluten free that you would also be included in the festivities. Most of the parties Sandy planned were for family. Nothing was as important to her as her family. We are part of a big family and she loved it. She worried about them, cared for them and loved them.
