David DeBoer
October 9, 1958 — February 2, 2024 (Aged 65)
David was born October 9, 1958 and joined his parents on February 2, 2024. David was preceded in death by his parents in 2007, his brother Les DeBoer in 2020 and his brother John DeBoer in 2023. David was born in Grand Ledge, MI and attended and graduated from Grand Ledge High School, class of 1977. While in school David was in baseball, wrestling and cub scouts. David would often talk about the camping trips for scouts that he and his dad would take or the trips they made to go salmon fishing. David enjoyed his two way radios, scanners and other radios. David enjoyed his weather radios also. David got his love for scanners and radios from his mother as he often talked about them listening together. David loved guns and was always studying up on new methods of reloading applications. David enjoyed going to the range and target shooting with his handguns. David was hooked on YouTube yet sometimes could not figure out his phone. David liked gardening but the last couple of years the deer and rabbits had won. I think he just liked being outside having a campfire and gardening was a good excuse. David started his career as a skilled auto mechanic but later changed career direction and joined the Michigan Department of Corrections and was employed as an officer with the MDOC up until his passing. David loved going snowmobiling and going up to Negaunee or the Gaylord area and staying in the cabins. David loved his dogs. His best buddy was Mishka. He also had adopted Sparky (Cat), Miley and then Tillie. His latest hobby was heated wear such as gloves and vests. David enjoyed fishing and loved watching Mishka retrieve the salmon they may have caught. David loved a good home cooked meal and his white cake with homemade butterscotch frosting. He had received one of those cakes for the past few years on his birthday and felt they were as good as his mom had made for him when he was younger. And his favorite saying I will never forget was to text either myself or my grandsons with the saying “It’s Just David.”
David is survived by special friend Sally Ann Spry, his goddaughter Helen Herrick; his nieces Jessica (Josef) Krawciw and Allissa DeBoer; his nephews Jason, Justin and John DeBoer; great nephews Aidan, Chaz, Shepherd and Vanguard; along with several cousins.
Cremation has taken place per David’s wishes. A celebration of David’s life will be held at Mills Funeral Home, Peters & Murray Chapel, on Saturday, February 10, 2024, with visitation from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm. and memorial service at 5:00 pm.
