We realize that there are other resources we could use to look up this information in libraries in electronic or paper format but we do not have the time to dedicate to that. If you have information for someone who has passed please let us know and we will make any changes to information we have previously posted. If we have no other information we will just list “NO INFORMATION WAS AVAILABLE” as part of their listing. Charlene Dunham Pearson
March 5, 1924 -- January 14, 2021 (Aged 96)
Our Heavenly Father called Charlene Pearson of Mulliken, MI home on Thursday, January 14, 2021 in Lansing, MI at the age of 96. Greatly loved as a daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother and friend. She leaves behind many beautiful and treasured memories. Charlene blessed Eldron and Arleta Dunham with her birth on March 5, 1924. Charlene graduated from Grand Ledge High School. She married the love of her life, Edward Pearson, on August 18, 1945, who preceded her in death in 1981 – they were inseparable until the day he passed away. Surviving are her son, William (Janet) Pearson, sister, Janice Sholty, many nieces and nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Charlene is preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Virginia Hoppes, and sisters, Vonda VanNeste, Lolah Dunham and Yvonne Dunham.
During her lifetime, she worked at Fisher Body and being a life-long resident of Mulliken, served in several different capacities with the Roxand Township Service Club, Mulliken Homecoming Committee and served as the Roxand Township Treasurer for over 30 years, regretfully retiring at the age of 87 due to her failing eyesight.
She and Edward always had an enormous garden they tended and would reap the rewards of their harvest with friends, neighbors and family. She always made the best homemade strawberry jam you would ever taste. She had her flower beds and yard landscape that she took care of dutifully around her home on the hill that her and Edward built.
When she lost her husband after 37 years of marriage, she had raised her own family and then became the best grandma any child could ever have. Her grandchildren were the joy of her life. It has also extended to the great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Always loving and giving, she adopted everyone – she was known as “Gram” to all. She loved selflessly and unconditionally, always willing to lend a helping hand, offer an ear to listen, but most importantly, just letting you know you were loved, which is the best gift anyone can offer to another. She was the “Their Person” in her family and was loved dearly.
She travelled with her son on many occasions to Canada for fishing trips, which she always looked forward to. She created memories that will last forever with her grandchildren from the trips to the family cabin on School Section Lake to travelling across the Mackinac Bridge to Sault Ste. Marie, watching the ships go through the Soo Locks, to travelling through the Upper Peninsula and letting them learn to love what she loved about the north woods, waterfalls, lakes, rivers and lighthouses and the state of Michigan, letting them have a “hands-on” experience because she always taught – you don’t travel anywhere until you know your own state – she was a Pure Michigan woman.
Summertime when the grandkids were out of school, she brought the “flock” under her wing and always had things to do and places to see when the big weekend or vacation time came. They still talk of their trips she took them on and have taken their own children back to those same places with her to relive the memories that they experienced. She would later happily host “Opening Day” breakfast for the great-grandchildren, with all the fixings, to send them on their way for the hunt of the “big one.” She lived her life for her family.
She was always “young at heart” and a giving soul. She didn’t have medical issues until a few years back. This upset her that she could no longer do the things she once did which then left her “home bound.” She no longer drove, which hurt her independent living. She and her late husband lived behind the wheel, travelling across the country and were members of the Airstream Club and spent many winters in Florida. When her husband passed away, she became a faithful tourist on the Hartzler Bus Tours. She then enjoyed travelling across the country with her sisters, Lolah and Yvonne. She also travelled across the entire state of Michigan with her sister, Janice, through terrain unknown to many in an attempt to locate and see every lighthouse; she collected lighthouses as well and has a very large collection.
One of her dreams was to have her 100th birthday announced on the Today Show; however, due to COVID, unfortunately this dream will never be realized. She was loved dearly by all and will be missed every day. She is now our guardian angel.
Visitation is 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. on Monday, January 18, 2021 at Peters & Murray Funeral Home with a private family service following. The family has entrusted arrangements to Peters & Murray Funeral Home, Grand Ledge. Online condolences may be shared at www.petersandmurrayfuneralhome.com
A Prayer for Grandma
Dear Lord,
Because she’s kind and generous, and for all the love she shows, Bless Grandma with her favorite joys and happiness that grows.
Because she gives the warmest praise for things that others do, let Grandma see how wonderful and special she is too.
For her words of gentle wisdom and the way she truly cares, watch over Grandma always, Lord, and answer all her prayers.
Amen.
