Class of 1968
This list of the graduates from the Class of 1968 was compiled from the GLHS 50+ Alumni Association yearly listings of who had passed over the last year at each annual reunion year. We are sure there are others we have missed that need to be added to this list. If you know of any graduates who have passed who are not listed here please email the information, including the year they passed, the date, and for the women their maiden name to:
[email protected] We are only looking "online" for information because we have hundreds of obituaries to research. We realize that there are other resources we could use to look up this information in libraries in electronic or paper format but we do not have the time to dedicate to that. If you have information for someone who has passed please let us know and we will make any changes to information we have previously posted. If we have no other information we will just list “NO INFORMATION WAS AVAILABLE” as part of their listing. The obituaries, or other information if it was available for the graduates that have passed, follow the listing. Thank You! |

Stephen Wilton

Birth: Eaton County, Michigan, USA
Death: Grand Rapids, Kent County, Michigan, USA
Burial: Oakwood Cemetery
Grand Ledge, Eaton County, Michigan, USA
A helicopter pilot in Vietnam. Went back to school several years after returning and became an elementary school teacher. Died of Hodgkin’s disease. Per US Dept. of Veterans Affairs: “ Veterans who develop Hodgkin’s disease (also called Hodgkin’s lymphoma) and were exposed to Agent Orange or other herbicides during military service do not have to prove a connection between their disease and military service to be eligible to receive VA health care and disability compensation”. The Institute of Medicine (IOM) of the National Academy of Sciences concluded in its 1994 report on “Veterans and Agent Orange: Health Effects of Herbicides Used in Vietnam” and in future updates that there is sufficient evidence of a positive association between exposure to the herbicides used in Vietnam and the development of Hodgkin’s disease.” This policy was not in effect at the time of Stephen’s illness and death.
Steve was greatly loved and respected by his friends and family, especially by many from his Class of 1968 at Grand Ledge High School in Grand Ledge, Michigan.

Raemelee Wright Garrison
July 16, 1950 -- June 11, 2021 (Aged 70)
Raemie left this world at noon on June 11, 2021 after having entered on July 16, 1950. We had nearly 70 years to delight in being with this glorious soul. She fought courageously for several years against an auto immune disease that finally took our dear one.
She was deeply loved by her sister, Ginger, who took excellent care of Raemie when she needed it most. Raemie joins the rest of her family…her parents Raymond Wright and Leona Kunkle and brothers Jody and KO…leaving Ginger to carry the torch. No service is being planned.
Raemie grew up in Grand Ledge, Michigan, graduating from Grand Ledge High School in 1968. One of her truest passions was our environment. She was in heaven when she landed a job with the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality, leaving DEQ to establish her own environmental quality consulting business in the Greater Detroit area.
Raemie and merriment were good friends. Her smile was our light while mischief played in the shadows. Following are bits of Raemie as described by her countless friends:
“Raemie’s wonderfully whimsical sense of humor was a breath of fresh air.”
“She was a tad rambunctious…forever acted like a kid, as was described in her ‘Hippie Chic Chronicles.’”
“She made a difference.”
“A vibrant, vivacious woman with a quick wit and a lot of moxie.”
A friend shared a poem, “The Ponds,” by Mary Oliver. This excerpt encapsulates our Raemie.
“…Still, what I want in my life
is to be willing
to be dazzled--
to cast aside the weight of facts
and maybe even
to float a little
above this difficult world.
I want to believe I am looking
into the white fire of a great mystery.
I want to believe that the imperfections are nothing--
that the light is everything—that it is more than the sum
of each flawed blossom rising and falling. And I do.”
Raemie...willing to be dazzled as she dazzled us. We were so lucky to have been present in HER light. Fly high, Raemie....we'll listen for your laughter among the stars. We loved you well.
Memorial contributions may be made to Ginger Wright, 501 S Lakeshore Drive, Lake City, MI 49651.
